Nature pest control
difference between good ladybugs and bad ladybugs
They may seem similar, but one helps control unwanted pests in the garden, and the other is part of the problem. Here's how to tell other than these look-alike bugs.
If you see a hard red shell with black dots, you automatically consider it a friendly ladybug. But those little bugs in your garden can actually be a kind of stink beetle that infiltrates your home, biting and stinking bugs. While Asian female beetles share some similarities with ladybugs, they are becoming a problem for many homeowners and gardeners, and they are overtaking the native ladybug people. If you can tell the difference between two beetles, you can stop an annoying problem before it even starts.
Identifying Ladybugs
These beetles are beneficial to your garden and are harmless to humans. They do not bite garden pests like aphids and scale insects. When the weather cools down, the ladybugs look for shelter outside and they don’t gather much.
You can identify a ladybug by its labels and size. They have bright, cherry-red shells with black spots, and their heads are black with small white "cheeks". Ladybugs are usually rounded and smaller than Asian female beetles.
Telling Asian female beetles from Ladybugs
To find out the difference between an Asian female beetle and a ladybug, look at where the head wings meet. If the error has a small white 'M' mark on the spot, it is a sign that you are dealing with an invasive organism. They have large white “chin” markings and overall have more white on their head. Their shell color ranges from pale orange to bright red, so most have a color similar to the ladybug.
Asian female beetles can enter your home through cracks or holes when it is cold outside and maybe on the side, doors, and windows. They are more aggressive than Ladybox and scratch and bite the skin they land on. If they feel threatened, they will expel the foul-smelling yellow liquid from the feet, which can stain the surface and trigger allergic reactions.
Although this is not common, Asian female beetles can infect dogs' mouths. As they look for a warm shelter in the winter, they attach to the roof of the dog’s mouth. While this does not always mean a trip to the emergency veterinarian, it can be very embarrassing and unpleasant for them. If they swallow the beetles, the yellow fluid can burn the dog's mouth or gastrointestinal tract.
How to control Asian female beetles
The best way to get rid of Asian female beetles out of your home is to seal potential entry points. Close gaps around windows, doors, and sidewalks to reduce risk. If they enter your home, try not to crush them, or they will emit a foul-smelling yellow liquid. The best way to avoid odors and stains is to vacuum them and vacuum when you are done. Place them in a sealed bag before throwing them in the trash.
Outdoors, beetles can wipe them off where they usually gather and rub that area with soapy water; They often do not return because the smell of the soap will beat the pheromones that attract more beetles to the area. They especially do not like the smell of citrus, cloves, or bay leaves.
You can take action to attract native ladybugs to your garden, they will push out the Asian female beetles. Avoid using chemicals in the garden and grow pollinated flowers. They are inspired by light and bright colors, so look for white and yellow flower varieties.
